Active Travel
We promote walking, cycling or scootering as a healthy way for our students to travel to school. Research shows being active can help students concentrate better and increase their levels of achievement. Being active on their journey to school also helps young people reach the recommended sixty minutes of physical activity a day.
By walking or cycling, our school community can also help reduce the number of vehicles on the road making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists. It also reduces the pollution caused from exhaust fumes helping combat climate change and create cleaner air.

By Bus
The school buses operate every morning and afternoon (please note, there are no school buses home at 12:30pm on the last day of each end of term).
In order to use the school bus service your child will require a QR code. To obtain a QR code, or if you have any queries, please visit the School Buses website or contact them by email. This means getting to school on the bus is very easy and don’t forget all young people travel for free if they have a student PuffinPass. By Motorcycle
Students are permitted to ride and park a motorcycle at school within the designated motorcycle parking zone once they have completed their Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). All students riding a motorcycle to school must complete the relevant form which can be found below.
We recommend students wear the appropriate safety gear, as per their CBT training. Rules for motorcycle riders are listed below (and must be agreed to when completing the form):
- I will ensure my motorcycle is roadworthy and kept well maintained;
- I will park in the designated motorcycle parking area in a sensible manner and ensure the exit/entrance is left clear;
- I will leave the motorcycle parking area once my motorcycle is secured and will not return to it until the end-of-day bell (unless given direct permission by a member of staff);
- I will obey the instructions of the staff conducting traffic at all times;
- If directed to stop or wait by staff, I will ensure I do so in a timely manner;
- I will allow Guernsey Police to check my motorcycle without obstruction and in a polite and respectful manner when they make their regular visits to SSHS to conduct motorcycle spot checks;
- When arriving or departing school, I will always obey all traffic rules and speed limits, as well as riding in single file at all times.
If any rider fails to comply with the above, parents/carers will be contacted and SSHS reserve the right to deny the rider from parking their motorcycle on the school premises for an indefinite period.

By Car
Special Constables are on duty before and after school outside of St. Sampson’s High School. Special Constables are highly respected members of our school community and their instructions must be followed at all times by parents and students alike. The car park can be extremely busy before and after school and, whilst we appreciate it can be a frustrating time, we will not tolerate any abuse directed towards our Special Constables.
To avoid congestion, the Special Constables will monitor traffic in the car park. Please follow their instructions at all times, they are there for the safety of everyone.
Please do not stop outside of school; if you need to drop-off or collect, please indicate and stop near the entrance of the school so that traffic can continue to flow. Please remind your child to stick to the pavements and leave the car park via the marked pedestrianised areas.
There is an inner bus lane separated from the main carriageway. Please do not use this lane when the school buses are in situ. This is for the safety of our students who may be boarding or un-boarding the buses. Please give way to the school buses where possible.
